YES!

Format

The Trauma Training is delivered as an in person training day, an online short course or as part of the residential Beloved and Entrusted Learning Retreat. It is gently paced with a generous distribution of breaks. Sessions include teaching from Claire, discussions in pairs and small groups, quiet personal reflection time and guided breath and prayer practices. There is a booklet with all the key content plus space to write your own notes and reflections. We’ll work together to make the experience safe and supportive for everyone.

Spiritual Practices for a Trauma Healing Way

Spiritual Practice Sessions will involve

  • Participating in at least two spiritual practices.
  • Reflecting on our experience of each practice.
  • Learning some of the theology behind each practice.
  • Learning how each practice supports trauma healing physiologically, psychologically and in other ways.

Ideally you need to have completed the Beloved and Entrusted Christian Trauma Training Course prior to doing this one.

Format

This course is delivered as an online short course or as part of the residential Beloved and Entrusted Learning Retreat. Sessions are very practical and interactive with the intent of learning together and from one another as we share the experience. We’ll work together to make it safe and supportive experience for everyone.

I now offer a one hour, FREE, online session called Trauma Essentials. In it we go through the basics of what trauma is, how it works and how it heals. The session serves as a great refresher or introduction to the subject of trauma. The content is also covered in the Beloved and Entrusted Christian Trauma Training. My aim is to run one per month, visit my events page to find out when the next one is – I hope you can join us!

Background

The Beloved and Entrusted Christian trauma training collection of events, like the book I am writing of the same name, is the result of my journey with trauma and exploring my relationship with God in the midst of it. My background as a children’s doctor and then working with young people who carry trauma and walking with friends and colleagues on similar journeys, have all informed my reflections.

I have found that many of us, myself included, have absorbed assumptions and beliefs from our western culture and church teachings and practice that are deeply problematic to our journey of recovery from trauma. I have designed this training to help us explore these together (and replace them) whilst we build up our understanding of trauma itself, how it works and how we can help each other recover. On a practical level each person will leave with (the beginings of) a personalised action plan for living and relating, and for growing in discipleship to Jesus, that is based on a trauma-healing theology and informed by the nature of trauma and those things that support recovery. On a professional level currently, you will earn six CPD credits for participating in the Beloved and Entrusted Christian Trauma Training day or short course. Additional accreditation is in pipelines for all training events.

Credentials

I am a retired Medical Doctor MBChB and hold a post graduate Diploma in Child Health, I have a Diploma in Youth and Community Work (Christian), a Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Children’s and Young People’s Mental Health. Alongside my extensive field experience in youth and community work all this informs my workshops on trauma and mentoring.

I have just earned an MA in Missional Leadership and Spirituality for which I completed a research dissertation on how the lived theologies of trauma survivors can help develop a trauma healing theology. I am continuing my studies in trauma theology to earn a Doctorate in the subject. This informs the theological side of what I deliver.

I have a Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training from Australia and have designed and delivered accredited training in the UK. This informs all my training and workshop delivery. I am now also an approved Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Provider (#787459) with the CPD Group.

I have a Certificate in Restorative Practice Conference Facilitation Skills which informs my group and workshop facilitation, and mentoring work.

I am a coach accredited at Practitioner level with the EMCC. I have a Level 7 Certificate in Coaching and Mentoring for Executives and Senior Leaders. This enables me to help others ground their growth and learning in pratical, real life, everyday ways.

I am not a trained counsellor so the aim in this trauma training is not to generate a therapeutic process, however the expectation is that people will experience a caring environment and our time together will be helpful, even if occasionally uncomfortable owing to the nature of the subject.

I look forward to welcoming you to a workshop in the near future (check my events page for dates).

What participants Say

A highlight of the workshop was gaining more understanding on the subject of trauma, especially my own but also some understanding of how others might be affected. I have more understanding of my own childhood experiences. I learned that I need to be kind to myself and to give myself time and be gentle with myself.

Trauma Workshop Attendee

This brought home to me that surviving trauma means there’s a HUGE need for people to be well informed in how to support people who have experienced traumatic events, this takes great wisdom and sensitivity and exploring how scripture has been misused and considering appropriate responses is vital I feel for anyone in a ministry role or serving capacity.”

Trauma Workshop Attendee

“I loved the balance between theory, theology and group work, exploring the concepts and applying in a practical way. Gold, pure gold..”
