beloved and entrusted

A journey with God through trauma

About the book

Beloved and Entrusted is a gentle reflection on a journey through trauma and its healing in the company of God. We are each deeply loved by God but wounded, and we have been entrusted by him with those around us – entrusted to love well and harmonise with his work of healing in one another’s lives. Without reliving painful events I share my own story as a survivor of childhood trauma. I invite the reader to consider the profound hope that the biblical narrative brings to the deepest wounds of our lived experience. By bringing an understanding of how trauma lives in a person’s being, I encourage us to look again at the ways we share the Gospel and express the Christian faith today and what changes we could make so that it sounds and feels like the good news it absolutely is, to a survivor of trauma.

Created to be read by survivors of trauma and those who journey with them, by those who follow Jesus and those whose pain holds them back, my hope is that readers will find the book to be a place of gentle encounter, healing and clarity. With sections on understanding trauma, a theology for trauma and its healing, and how to be trauma informed in ministry, the book is a companion for anyone trying to make sense of their trauma whilst walking with Jesus, and for Christians wanting to live, lead and share their faith in trauma informed ways.

Whilst final editing and crafting of the book is underway, I am running workshops in person and on line for those interested in exploring the themes of the book further.

The Beloved and Entrusted Workshops

In the workshops we will cover three main areas:

  • understanding trauma (an introduction!)
  • a beautiful Christian theology for trauma and its healing
  • practices in life and ministry that support the healing of trauma

I use spiritual practices like Lectio Divina and breath prayer, alongside more traditional training methods, and time for quiet reflection and conversations, with lots of coffee breaks and opportunities to ask questions.

I facilitate a gentle process that invites everyone to engage with this challenging subject and gain new insights into their own life and that of those they walk with. I am not a trained counsellor so the aim is not to generate a therapeutic process, however the expectation is that people will experience a caring environment and our time together will be helpful, even if occasionally uncomfortable.

I look forward to welcoming you to a workshop in the near future (see the events page for workshop dates).
